Kind to a Fault: Rakuyo is a good and gentle soul, though the same nature often means he's taken advantage of by others with less-than-good morals. He's not naive persay, but he spends more time trying to be kind and selfless than thinking about the consequences--or if someone is lying to him.Dyscalculia: Whether it's a log of sales or an invoice for new merchandise, Rakuyo can't understand numbers to save his life. He frequently misreads and miswrites even the simplest memos while running his family's shop. Despite this difficulty, Rakuyo still tries his best, and often looks to his younger brother to act as his numerical proofreader.

(Kai)

Kleptomaniac: Unless it's bolted down or under a constant watch, Kai is apt to take anything that catches his eye. Even then, worthwhile valuables are still at risk if he feels an obligation to take them. Examples include if the owner of said valuable is rich and can do without it, or if they're a jackass. Actually, especially if they're a jackass.Questionable Connections: Due to his experience with other delinquents and less-than-legal black market groups, Kai is usually able to get information (and goods) most folk can't get their hands on.

Background

Rakuyo was born to a merchant family in Kugane who sold culinary wares and ingredients. While Rakuyo had been a planned son for the couple, his younger brother Kai had been a surprise--and continued on being such as he grew.Though their parents had wanted for Rakuyo to take up the family buisiness, he himself had interests in the art of healing magicks; by the time that Kai was born, however, the eldest son stowed away most of his personal interests in favor of following the will of his parents, especially as there was nobody else to take on the shop. He never liked learning the ins-and-outs of merchant work, and was never much a business man. Many a time he was chastised for handing out food to those who seemed to need it--the hungry, the poor, the needy. He believed greatly in the health and happiness of all people around him, even if that would have led his finances into ruin.Fate would start to turn in Rakuyo's favor when Kai became too much of a handful for their growing parents to handle. It became clear from a very young age that the boy was a trickster, with his mind as sticky for answers as his fingers were to objects that didn't belong to him. He got into many a scuffles with other merchants and authorities alike, leading him to have a distinct dislike of his parents or how desperately they tried to instill a more down-to-earth and traditional viewpoint like his elder brother.

Rakuyo became rather adepth at healing arts as he and Kai grew older, if only to make sure he could keep bandaging up all the scratches, bruises and various ills that befell upon his lovable demon of a brother, who he was close to despite their differing senses of morality and personal ambitions, particularly after an event that left Rakuyo blind in one eye while defending his younger brother after a theft-turned-sour. Though they often bickered due to their differing relationships with their parents and their outlooks on life, the two brothers were close.But their lives would be forever changed when a fire caught in the shop, ravaging through several other buildings and killing many people in the process--two of which being Rakuyo and Kai's parents. As Kai was 15 and Rakuyo 32, the elder of the two had a lot to take on in--both the care of his younger brother as well as unraveling what life lay before the two of them. They had no money left to their name, no shop to tend, and hardly any repute left in the city of Kugane (as many of the authorities believed Kai started the fire).So they left. In the years following, Kai honed his skills of larceny and stealth for more morally tasteful purposes, while Rakuyo became incredibly adept with white magic, using it to heal anyone in need that they came across. More wanderers than anything else, the brothers at least had one another to depend upon in times of great difficulty.
